Recently, I was contacted by a reader who was unable to get the Reversible Double Half-Persian 4-in-1 (HP41) Collar from Chain Maille Jewelry Workshop<\/a><\/em> (pages 116-117) to drape as she desired. Differences in batches of jump rings over time could be the cause of the issue.  The original necklace shown in the book was made several years ago.  Other variables might be involved as well.   It can be difficult to diagnose such problems via email.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I suggested some things she could do to resolve the issue.  I just tested my advice, and I am quite pleased with the new and improved version of the necklace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When making the new necklace, I used two different size jump rings to make the two HP41 chains instead of making both chains with the same size jump rings.  I used 16 SWG, 3\/8\u201d id jump rings, as in the original necklace, to make the outer chain.  I used 16 SWG, 5\/16\u201d id jump rings to make the inner chain.  The smaller size used to make the inner chain encourages the chain to curve nicely around the neckline, improving the drape.  Because one chain is made with smaller jump rings, the length is affected, therefore, each chain now contains 84 color 1 jump rings and 84 color 2 jump rings instead of 61 jump rings of each color used for the original necklace.  Of course, the number of connecting jump rings must be increased as well (from 122 to 168).  I made the new necklace using one of my favorite color combinations, Black Ice and Champagne (both sides shown below).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The last change I made was to use a 2-strand tube slide clasp (also affecting the overall length).  This style clasp provides a more stable connection.  The finished necklace measures approximately 17\u201d (not including the clasp).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
